Nation's First: Gui'an Campus Successfully Executes DSA-CBCT-Guided Magnetic Navigation Precision Biopsy
In October 2025, the interventional team led by An Tianzhi at Guizhou Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (also known as the Gui'an Campus of Guizhou Medical University Affiliated Hospital), successfully performed China’s first precision biopsy procedure utilizing a combination of DSA-CBCT and magnetic navigation guidance. This milestone achievement provided an accurate diagnosis and laid the groundwork for tailored treatment for a patient with multiple small liver nodules, the largest measuring 10 mm in diameter.
Traditional image-guided biopsy techniques are often limited in precision and frequently fail to accurately locate extremely small lesions. This innovative approach addresses these challenges through an integrated platform that enables preoperative 3D planning, intraoperative real-time navigation, and immediate postoperative assessment. By leveraging the core functionalities of the magnetic navigation robotic system—including multi-modal image fusion and real-time positional calibration—the team achieved precise "one-needle, on-target" puncture. The patient experienced an uneventful recovery with no complications, thus validating the technique’s safety and efficacy.
This technological breakthrough not only sets a new benchmark for biopsying complex small lesions in the chest and abdomen but also expands the clinical application scope of intelligent interventional systems. As a high-tier institution integrating healthcare, education, and research, the hospital continues to prioritize advancing minimally invasive interventional technology. Such initiatives contribute to the ongoing development of standardized and precise intelligent interventional diagnosis and treatment systems across China, ultimately enhancing the quality of care for patients.
